Fitness Do’s and Dont’s
DO’s:
- Be positive
- Set a good example.
- Get them to agree on a plan
- Be encouraging about new changes
- Teach kids to like themselves for who they are
- Compliment their efforts
- Talk to them about being active
- Be more active
- Be realistic. Have a treat once in a while.
- Teach your kids about good nutrition.
- Start teaching good habits early.
Dont’s:
- Don’t single out a family member who may be overweight.
- Don’t nag them about eating.
- Don’t impose rules.
- Don’t criticize bad habits.
- Don’t compare kids to someone else
- Don’t focus on mistakes
- Don’t put kids on a diet
- Don’t sit in front of the TV all day.
- Don’t restrict your child’s diet too much or your efforts may backfire.
- Don’t let them get their information from commercials on TV.
- Don’t give up on your teenager.
Making a few positive changes will have a HUGE impact on your child’s nutrition and physical activity habits. Talk to your child’s pediatrician for more helpful suggestions if you have real concerns.
